The one called Ai

They came to the monastery as a last request of their captain bringing something along that is causing more talk and worry since the day I arrived. I explained my purpose to Jeuleth and she understood what needed to be done. I was granted status and knighthood in the order.

They buried their captain in the graveyard reserved for the fallen knights, a great honor from what I’m told. Watching from a distance I knew these were the ones I had been waiting for. I talked to Jeuleth she gave me one final thing that sealed me into the order, my mask. She explained that she understood why she needed to send me but was worried about being found out for what I really was.

I begin to travel with them, they seem much quieter a group than I thought they would be. They both seem to be deep in thought constantly, and then theres that book they carry with them. I wonder if its tried speaking to them yet, it is a terrible evil that these men have been forced to carry with them. I know not what it would do to something like me.

The journey to the wild lands has brought us to a fishing village, Pagl, where a man was kind enough to give us provisions and Tunluns, which looked like big woolly goats, to take us to Tachlerlin. After a few days of quiet travel we arrived at desolate village named Shethen. It seemed to be abandoned dinner was still on the tables in some of the houses. Something caused them to leave in a hurry. As we make way to press on we are stopped by a check point of guards they check our eyes and become very spooked when they look under my hood into mine, after some talking I let them know that I am an Ilnam knight and that i have been sent by my order to investigate. We talk more and find a lieutenant that recognizes the order, we are given a letter of mark and granted access into the City.

When we arrive at Tachlerlin we are gain checked by the guards, Aeromethies finds Liam Shadowind and Khardesh. We tell them what has happened, they try to tell us but they say something muffled and begin to vomit maggots onto the floor. It would seem they have been affected by a dire curse. They can tell us very little but want us to fallow them back into the wild. I agree as it seems the only way to pursue my investigations. He tells me of an Item that he will need a the Spine of Twilight I agree to help him steel it. We then make our way twords the Den of a Creature named Ai. With the help of a sword mage named Baelyth a long-time friend of Aeromethies and a goliath cleric named Saavu. Still very little questions from these men about me, they were talked about as a much different group then what I am seeing here.

Liam Explains as much as he can about him without causing his curse to be invoked. We have strayed from the path to Ai and are interrupted by one of the Keepers a large Treant named Timberfoot. He explains that he cannot allow us to come into the depths of the forest, and that if we are here to kill the creature Ai then it would be best for us to turn around. We learn that Ai has been alive for a very long time, his mind is a font of knowledge and that his death would be a great loss.

He leaves us with a bit of info thought that Ai would do anything to keep himself alive. We move along the edge of the forest until we find his lair. A battle ensues the creature steals faces thoughts and memories, though we do gain some knowledge from him it pales in comparison to what he learns when he steals our faces. After a long battle we beat Ai into submission he tells us his secrets and who his master is a Demon God named Irioun I will meditate on this for answers.

I find myself walking on the sea feeling only bliss, a brief feeling as if I am supposed to be elsewhere but that thought disappears from my mind like the heat of your breath on a cold morning. I am meant to be here, I can feel it through to the very core of my being, but why? I look around I see nothing but dark blue water as far as the eye can see.

I hear a Deep Bold voice echo into my mind, " Denson Jiles do you remember when last we spoke?" My mind feels cloudy now flashes pass through memory almost as if the voice is flipping through it like an old dusty book. I remember now, “I accept my fate my lord, I only ask..” I pause for the right words my memories still swimming through my head. He answers knowingly “I am not sure how your companions will fare, two are cursed on the fringes of the wild, another’s mind has been shattered, one dead and another lost beyond my vision. Only one still has his mind intact but I cannot see what awaits him.” The voice pauses, I hear foot prints on the water near me I turn to see Korhren hooded his face shrouded his arms are bare.

“Denson you look worried, there is still a plan I will not allow things to end so darkly, there are others that have been moved into play. Come now, you served me well in life let bliss wash over you, be cleansed of these thoughts. I have another in mind who should be able to finish the task at hand, it is risky because of what he is, but he shall do the trick I think.” I feel the calm of the ocean wash over me bliss claims me once more and I am soothed by my Korhren’s welcoming words to the hereafter.

Densen, Aero, Ayel, and their new orc ally descend into the dungeons of Darzok Keep. They encounter a party of goblin men and an ogre guarding a prison door. The goblins and their ogre are dispatched.
The heroes then open the guarded door and see a resurrection ritual being performed beyond a locked cell door. The bleeding body of Bifo Steel lays upon an altar with a cauldron catching the seeping blood. Cloaked figures assist in an encantation as a body writhes within the cauldron. An unholy blight pours into the room the heroes stand in. The slain goblins and ogre return as animated corpses. In addition, the remains of long-dead prisoners are animated into a throng of zombies.
The fight is long and looks to not bode well for the group. Both Densen and the orc rogue are slain. With just a few enemies remaining, Ayel is able to disrupt the ritual while Aero holds off the claws of undeath with the last of his strength.
Makhan is banished and may never return so long as the blood of Kiddir remains in the world. The bodies of the dead heroes are returned to the Sunfury and the group departs the chaos that is now Darzok Keep.

While making our way back into port Ayel noticed a familiar dwarven face on a fishing vessel heading out to sea. He informed me that he has just seen Nadrug Steel the dwarf we thought had died in our encounter into the Hall of Kings. I gave the order to come about and we soon caught up to his ship. I called out to the captain to stop his ship, and that we had business with one of his crew men. After a few exchanged words he agreed to let us search his ship. The ships captain refuted having any knowledge of any crewman by the name of Nadrug Steel, Ayel informed me that he had seen him hiding behind the captains quarters. The captain fetched him and drug him out by his collar. He asked if there was a bounty on his head, we told him not to worry about him, paid him 6 gold pieces of ancient dwarven gold for the loss of his crewman and sent him on his way.

We dragged Nadrug below deck and began to interrogate him about how he had managed to escape while my crew had been slaughtered. He said the he had seen the fish men crawlign all over the boat and had run away in fear of his own life. I drew my sword pricked his finger open and rubbed his blood in my hand asking if he knew how valuable his blood was these days. The dwarfs face had drained in color at this point. He asked me who I was working for and how did I know so much. I let him know that i wouldn’t be doing my job very well if I didn’t know this information. I also let him know that I was not working for Oldrek. A small sense of reliefe cam across the dwarfs face, and he let me know that it was not safe to speak his name, not anymore. I asked if this had something to do with Bifoe Steel’s disappearance, again the dwarf looked shocked.

He then began to tell me that some time ago he and his uncle Bifoe had been captured. He was taken to a camp of Goblins where a Goblin warlord named Gazash carried with him a bag of bones and a massive sword, and had been giving orders to the other goblins. He remarked that it was odd that the goblin warlord was walking strangely, standing up taller, and speaking in an old dialect of dwarven sometimes. I informed him that the goblin warlord was most likely being possessed by the Spirit of Mekahn. He told me that Bifoe had helped him escape and let him know that he was more important as his blood was closer to Kahdir’s than he was. He had tried to help him but the guard was coming back and Bifoe demanded that he leave him.

I let Nadrug know that he was welcome to stay on my ship, as long as he made himself useful. While we were coming back up to the desk I noticed that we were now surrounded by ships 2 massive juggernauts the bore the flag of the Darzok, Oldrek’s men. I turned to my party members and told them to stowaway Nedrug in a one of the hidden compartments. Surrounded by mercenary ships and Oldrek’s finest I gave the order to stand down. A swarm of dwarfs then began to cascade onto my ship armed to the teeth and ready for a fight. I remarked to the dwarf that looked like he was in charge that it only took 3 fleets to capture me. Anger stir in his eyes as he told me “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” Curiosity was killing me then so I had to ask “whats the hard way.” He began to tell me that we would fight in vain and be defeated and dragged on board. I let him know that would be stupid. Oldrek would probably not be pleased that you damaged or even killed the people had had spent so much time and money on trying to track down. He stopped in his words and asked “so your going to do this the easy way?” I told my men to drop their weapons. we were then dragged on board one of the juggernauts.

The dwarf asked about any dwarfs on our ship and I lied about Nadrug. The dwarf seems to believe me. I then remarked how low and shameful it must be to be working with goblins. The dwarfs eyes flickered with anger as he slapped me across the face. All I could do was laugh at him to show my resolve on how things were going to turn out in my favor. He also asked about a book and that Gazash says that he thinks I have it in my possession. I told him to fetch this Gazash or did he mean Mekahn? He gave a look like as if he didn’t know what I was talking about. I was then taken with my crew to the brig where we thrown into one of the cells. Gazash then came walking in and began to ask me about the book. I greeted him as Gazash but then asked or is this Mekahn, his eyes flickerd a white and his neck twiched, his voice changed slightly and asked about the book again. I told him that I had given the book to a Soul Knight, Súton Vaaler and that he had taken it to be destroyed, at this point Mehkan took for possession of the Goblin Warlord and began to scream at me in anger. I asked if he missed the words of Neher tucking him in at night. Enraged he ordered the truth to be tortured out of me. I was tortured on 3 separate occasions. Not once did I break, the secret of the book and Nadrug safely locked inside my mind. From the anger that I heard above deck I can only assume that Mekahn is sure that I gave the book to the Soul Knights to be destroyed.

After a few days we arrived at the Island of the Darzok a prison fortress and the base of operations for Oldrek Emberpike. We were led in to a familiar looking cell and shackled to the wall. Olrek then came in and let us know just how displeased he was with what we have done. He had warned us with a demonstration of what would happen if we went back on our word. I was concerned on the survival of my crew especially my good friend Julius as I knew what was coming for us, all i could think about was my earlier time in life and being tortured by my former order for my unwillingness to conform to there way of thinking. He stripped our shirts and grabbed his whip and began to lash us across the chest. After he was satisfied he then left, and our wounds were tended to. We were fed well, it was clear he wanted to keep us around for a long time just so that he could do this to us when he felt like it. The next day he decided to show mercy and let one of us go, he grabbed Julius and let us know that he would be dumped in a nearby village and that he would live. He caught me however looking into Julius’ eyes. He felt that it would be improper to not leave me a parting gift he then cut off one of Julius’ ears and stuffed it in my pocket. An Elf with thick glasses and an odd machine walked in, he then yelled at a couple dwarfs as they started cranking up the machine, it began to spark and hiss. He then pulled out some copper rods from the machine and began to press them to our chests, it felt like i was being stuck by lightning, it wasn’t long before we were broken. My men were begging for mercy, I remained silent I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of begging for my life. Again we were bandaged and fed.

The next day he threw our Armor in at us and let us know that he had a change of heart. We were then led to a small cage and we were hoisted up into a gladiators arena. A massive 50 foot tall dome covered the Arena. Oldrek then began to announce that he had a change of heart for his morning appointments and that he would be giving us to his pet to play with. at that point the door behind us began to shake and thunder, the crowd was laughing and yelling in excitement for the coming show. A barrier with viewing slots then rose around the seats of Oldrek and his honored guests, I took a shield and sword from the weapon wrack and readied myself for what was going to come through the other door. I asked the name of the female orc that had been forced into fighting along side us. She replied that she did not know her name. The Door began to raise upwards and the claws and the head of a green forest dragon began to press through the door. I readied for the comming attack but was surprised when i saw it fly over us and latch onto the shielded wall where Oldrek was. The dragon let loose its breath green gaseous flames smothered the shiled as sharp pikes began to poke out through the view slots forcing the dragon to unlatch and drop to the ground. It then set its sights on us.

I spoke to it in its native language trying to convince it that we were not its enemy and that we had the same goal, the death of Oldrek. She responded “Your in my way.” and began to fly at the rogue snapping at me as she went by. I did my best to try to hold the dragon’s attention trying to convince her yet again that together we could defeat Oldrek and be free of this place. She lashed out at me and flew back unleashing poison on us, slowed by the toxin swimming in my veins I charged her and again tried to reason with her. She told me to prove my resolve. Ayel and Aeromethies had been working on the chains that held the shield up. I backed away from the dragon and told my companions to focus on the chains, shortly after those words left my mouth a crash of thunder hit the left chain and shattered one of the links half the shield to drop. The dragon then jumped into the air and flew directly to new found entry point and again unleashed her breathe onto Oldrek and his horrified guests of honor. Deathly screams filled the booth, the crowd roared with excitement in this twist. We then began scrambling up the chains into the booth with the Dragon, I released the other chain so that the spectators could get a better view, as i announced to the crowd the final mins of Oldrek’s life. The Dragon pushed Oldrek back into the wall, Olrdrek began to scream like a little girl as be begged for his life. We dispatched his two body guards, and the dragon let us know that in the room behind her was a wheel that would release the door so she could get free. I told her as you wish my lady and ran to the wheel. She then bit down hard onto Oldrek and ripped his head off his shoulders we wrenched the wheel opening the door she flew towards her escape spraying the crowed with poison one last time before disappearing with Oldrek’s head clinched between her teeth. We unloaded barrels of Oldreks finest ales and spirits to the roaring crowd and made our way to the armory.

I pushed my way through a crowd of mercenaries and pirates to find three guards still loyal to Oldrek blocking the way. I let the people know that this was only the armory and that the vaults were being sacked as we spoke. Half the men ran off to search for the riches. The orc snuck behind the guard and took his key in the confusion. He opened the door which caused one of the guards to turn around I stuck him int he back of the neck with my sword knocking him unconscious. the other two backed away realizing there life’s were not work it. We pushed are way into the vault. Where Ayel and Aeromethies threatend them with death by fire and thunder if they didn’t leave scared they took what they had in there hands and left.

We grabbed our weapons and loaded up three karts of gear and goodies. and made our way to the docks. we saw a horde of goblins escorting a silver haired dwarf to the dungeons we made our resolve to go after him sending our crew, Grim Facemasher, and the dragon born back to the ship with our goods and make ready our departure.

Into the Wild
Wild, Kitari, Shadow-Realm, Displacer-Beasts, Scath, Ai, Mimic, Hag.

Khardesh, and Liam take passage from a nearby fishing vessel back to the mainland, and end up at a small fishing town, close to the Dwarven Capital. Their they buy mounts and supplies and head through the wilds towards the Tachterlin Jungle, the home of the Kitari. After navigating the wilds coming close to being trampled by strange mammoth like creatures, and losing their way in the dense forests. They find themselves and the cliffs leading down into the Jungles. Liam has been here before, but they cannot find the one path leading down. After searching for 2 days they finally find it but have lost precious time to get home. Once in the Jungle they find themselves again moving north only to realize that they have gone far afield from their original destination, and find themselves on the border of the Fey-wilds, and the Valdenwold mountains. Once here Liam is positive of their position but night is rapidly coming. They will have to spend a night in the Jungle. While searching for a suitable campsite, Liam feels a sort of presence, sort of like sensing shadows but not quiet. As he was searching this feeling Khardesh see’s over his shoulder too late a nightmarish beast streak out of the forest with astonishing speed and attack his companion. He instantly recognizes these creatures though never before has he seen one, Displacer Beasts! Suddenly Khardesh hears a noise behind him, turning to barely dodge another beasts stabbing tentacle. Quickly the druid shifts into his Wolf form and charges the beast that just lunged for him. Swiping ferociously he tries to knock the beast down, but the quick creature dodges his swipe, with a burst of adrenaline Khardesh tries once more to again lay the creature low with his claws, when he saw his claws sink into the creature and go straight through it. He was surprised. These beasts seemed to be foggy when looking straight at them, and it was near impossible to focus on them. Meanwhile Liam jumps into the shadow of the beast that struck him, reappearing behind the one Khardesh was battling against. Stabbing with his poisoned blade the beast roared in pain and magic that made them hard to see vanished, and Liam seemed to sink into the beasts shadow, becoming a part of it. The 1st beast seeing the Assassin vanish into its mate, runs with blinding speed around and toward the druid again stabbing outside the range of the Wolf with its Tentacles, but the Wolf is able to dodge around. The beast with the Shadow Jacking assassin roars in fury and Bites at the annoying shadow and was able to get it, but its attack seemed not much effect as Liam seemed shadowy and insubstantial. After dodging the blow the Wolf pounces the beast that is easiest to see and savagely tears into it grabbing the beast and holding it down. As the Assassin steps again into the light next to the downed creature he Stabs down again, blade sinking deeply into the creature, and the shadow of the creature seemed to writhe up and hinder it so that it could not move. Quickly the to friends finish off the downed beast, and turn their attention to the remaining beast. After a quick and furious melee the 2nd beast tried to get away in fear, but the druid had a death-grip on the beast, and was in a fury. Not letting go the druid snaps the poor animals neck and the displacer beasts are no more. After this combat the Druid remembers that the hides of these animals are rare and will fetch a good price. Feeling remorse that he did not let the poor creature go, the two adventurers skin the beasts and cook their flesh so their deaths would be for nothing, even though they attacked them first.

After a restless night with not much rest, the two adventurers set out once more, towards the capital of the Kitari home. While they are walking they hear a pitiful braying noise coming from off to the west, a call that seems like an animal in distress. Quickly they go and investigate to find the kit of the two beasts they had slain. Feeling sorry for the creature, and remorse for accidentally killing the last beast. Khardesh picks up the little creature and feeds it some of his food, and takes it with them on their way to the city. After about an hour of journey the two come across an abandoned Kitari village, with nothing to see or get. The two continue on the roads that are now connecting towns. Luckily the two stumble across a band of Kitari Warriors who are wary of them at first until learning of Liam’s family name, Shadowind. Respectfully they tell the two that they are past the battlefront in no-mans land and that they will safely lead them to the Capital. After a long trek that takes most of the day the two find themselves in the Capital. Liam is reunited with his sister Lethan, whom tells him their father is angry that he has been gone so long and that he is summoned to the temple immediately, that some message awaits him. Liam is expecting this after his dreams of Sarai and her begging him to come to her as soon as possible. The druid is found apartments as he cannot go into the temple and Liam continues on towards the temple. There he is reunited with his father, who is angry that Liam has been gone from their home for so long. Liam explains that he did not mean to be gone so long but as an assassin he was duty bound to help the helpless light-forge clan and continued to relate everything that had happened so far. After hearing the story his father is proud of his son, and understands why he has been so long. After a moment his father tells him that there is a message of utmost importance from the Shadow Queen herself! Keltath is scared that his son has somehow offended their deity. After Liam explains he was expecting this he tells his father the dream he had with Sarai (the daughter of the Shadow-queen) and of their betrothal during his trials in the shadow-realm. His father is stunned and awestruck by this news, and hurries Liam towards the chamber to commune with the messenger. Once Liam is in the chamber he sits down to meditate and finds himself falling into the shadow-realm. There he is met by Sarai and after a heartfelt embrace, and touching moment. She relays the message from her mother. The Scath are an unknown to even the shadow-queen, and they want Khardesh and Liam to go talk to Ai an old and powerful being on the edges of the fey-wild that will have the knowledge of this race. The Kitari, Faolon and the Shadow-queen herself wants the Scath to be destroyed, but Sarai wants Liam to save them if he can at least one even. Ai is the only creature that can make this possible, but if they go they will be putting themselves at great risk. Ai is a malevolent trickster and cunning manipulator. It is an ancient being that somehow can be in the shadow-realm and the Physical plane at the same time. He is also called the face stealer because if you show any emotion to this creature it will steal your face and learn your knowledge. After Liam accepts this Sarai begs him to be careful and kisses him before he is pulled back to the real world. Once coming out of the shadow-realm, Liam tells his Father, and the Grand Templar what has transpired and what he must do. His father accepts his story but the Grand Templar is skeptical as he is Jealous of Liam and the interest the shadow-queen has shown in him. He had never been summoned the way Liam was. Liam notices this and tries to soothe him but fails and the Grand Templar sneers and calls him (Favored of the shadow) and storms out of the chamber.

The next morning Khardesh is approached by the Faolon diplomats in city, and they ask him to watch the sly Kitari and make sure they do nothing to harm the Faolon. Khardesh gets the sense that all but one are very slimy individuals. The one that he can trust is a close friend since infancy a Faolon Shaman, that tells him not to listen to the machinations of the others. But tells him that he has seen ‘Signs’ that prophecy is happening and that the wolf gods blood is among them again. Khardesh holds tight to his spear but does not reveal his story to his friend, as he does not trust anybody with that knowledge that he had met the wolf god himself and saved by him, thus becoming one of the very few to ever survive being in the fey-wild for more than a day and the only known mortal to survive the wild for near a week.

After this the two set out to the rough outline Sarai had been able to tell him of where his lair is. While traversing the jungle the two find themselves lost and off course stuck in a bog with night rapidly closing. With moral low the two try to find a way out of the waist deep bog, only to find an old lady walking along a path which see’s the two travelers and helps them out of the bog, and takes them to her cabin. The two see her cabin which looks like a nice place on the outside surrounded by a circle of mushrooms. Everything in the circle is green and healthy looking. The Kitari is wary of the old women, but the Faolon does not seemed too concerned so the Kitari trusts his friends judgment and goes with him into the old woman’s home. With the old women babbling to herself about useless things such as pains and such she offers to make the two travelers some food, after pulling out bread and strange sausage looking links. And then opening some sort of hole in the floor the two adventurers find themselves gagging at the stench coming from the opening as she spoons out some yellowish looking goo onto the food. Asking the two if they are hungry they politely refuse her food trying to find a way to leave. Only to have the old women say “Well if you will not eat, then I WILL” To their astonishment the couch lifted out arms and grabbed the two as the old women turned into a hag in front of them and screamed a noise that left their heads ringing, and pain lancing through their minds. Quickly the Druid breaks free of the couch and lunges after the hag turning into a wolf as he charges. But as he slammed into the creature she seemed to teleport away and out of the house, laying on her back as the blow knocked her down. After she changed the adventurers notice her house in a state of decay they did not see while under her spell. Now they found themselves in a frantic battle for their lives. Only barely overcoming the Hag and her Mimic the two find themselves mending their wounds as they they stay in the glade at night. Even though it was a protection from Good circle it did keep the creatures of the jungle out. After resting up the two find themselves going the direction Ai should be in. Only after many hours of travel they come to an area with Massive trees with small little branches. Seeing a baboon sitting on the ground facing a rock the two slow and watch the creature. It hears them and turns to show them a horrible sight. Where its face should be was only a hole where the creature could breathe and eat from. It starts to frenzy and tries to run away, but runs headfirst into the rock, and tries to scramble away. The two adventurers had found Ai’s lair… As they watched the baboon they hear a soft raspy voice. Welcome to my home… The two turn to find Ai. As it falls from the tree and stands before them. A colossal creature out of Nightmare!

August 21, Circa 2997,
We set out to investigate the cave that inhabited the trolls we had slaughtered at the gates of Anchordeep. We have found some gold and a medallion that was still attached to the remnants of a rotting corpse. As we were finishing our search Facesmasher alerted us to a dark figure coming down the mountain towards us. First we thought it may have been the culprit in this hole mess, I admit a felt very foolish to accuse a knight of Ilnam of such debauchery. We found that this knight, Súton Vaaler had been sent by his order to investigate the recent deaths in the city. We proceeded to tell him about what had happened up to this point, Makahn, the Genasi mage, and a ritual to bring about the rebirth of Makahn through the descendent’s of Kiddir. What seemed to trouble him most and me as well is how disturbed he was that I have a tome of Neher(Nekhra). He gave me the same advice that Lady Shira Dori did, Destroy it. I feel that this book may be starting to take a dominating presence in the back of my mind. It must be destroyed, and if not it must be contained. He told me that he will have an invitation sent to me from his order, maybe there I will get the answers I need in destroying or sealing this tome away from the world. Until then it will be my burden to bear. He Noticed the Kitari, Liam and the Faolan, Kardesh; he informed them of the current situation in there home lands. Creatures known as the Scath have been swarming into there lands like a black cloud of locusts. This is indeed troubling to the two of them as it is the first that they have heard of any news from there land. I only hope that they are not receiving this information to late.

On our return to town we escorted Súton Vaaler to Lady Shira. We then headed back to the tavern to see where our friend Julias had disappeared to, We were stopped by a maid at the tavern who gave us grave news that Julias had been abducted from the tavern and had been taken to the docks, We informed her to give a message to Súton Vaaler of our whereabouts. We Made it to the docks only to see a large steam ship exiting port, we found that Julias was taken onboard.

While pursuing in our new ship the Sunfury. It is then that the we discovered sounds coming from some cabinets in the hull it was the only remaining member of the original crew of the Sunfury; a feydrake whelp. The creature was scared out of its mind when it first saw us. It flew around the ship frantically searching for its master, before hiding out up in the crows nest. It seems to be taking a liking to us though as I have seen it fallowing us around the boat when it thinks we are not looking.

We quickly picked up on the steam and smoke trial left by the captures ship, I made the mistake of getting to close and was fired upon, I’m convinced they were working for Oldrek Emberpike. We fallowed their smoke trail from a distance and out of sight to some islands in the open oceans of the Northeast Sea. We hid our ship in the cove of another island and used the long boat to approach unseen. Liam took out the watchman who let out a scream before he could be silenced,it didn’t seem to have alerted anyone though. Liam, Kardesh, and the drunken dwarf who surprisingly was the quietest of the three sneaked aboard the ship, after a small skirmish with the remaining crew on board they set the ship ablaze, at wish time we were spotted by someone in the caves.

Upon entry into the cave Liam sneaked around to get an idea of what was happening, he reported that he saw what looked to be Julius’s body shackled to the cave wall yet he says he cannot smell any sign of death or decay that he is seeing. We pressed in, a fierce battle ensued as we fought with dwarf rogues, fighters, and a wizard. The poor drunken dwarf managed to charge right into the clutching teeth of a Dire Crocodile only to reverse the rolls and not only grab but pin and drag the thing into one of the dwarfs. As the battle raged on we noticed our new friend from the Sunfury was with us, he has seemed to have a drastic effect on our moral when he was close I could feel renewed strength even after taking the mightiest of blows that might crush another’s morale. It was a fierce battle leaving us with wounds that will most likely leave scars for tales to be told in warm taverns. I find that Liam was mistaken about the condition of Julius though as he doesn’t seem to be wounded at all. We find a letter ordering these Dwarves to capture me, and if not me the first mate of the crew, they were then to bring one of us here to await another ship to transfer us to Oldrek Emberpike as one of his prisoners, Seeing how he treated his last prisoners I am glad that it did not get that far.

The Dwarf Facesmasher has agreed to stay on board as part of the crew, to protect it from foes that might try to board while we are away. I’m going to have to start loading this ship with ale, rum, whatever else that dwarf seems to drink, and from the look of it is anything…

Goblin Ambush

The group gets an uneasy rest in the tombs. They backtrack to the entry hall of the tombs and go through the South door. There on the floor in a small hall is the body of Elzan-Ki. A detachment of goblins was waiting for them and ambushes them.

Lead by a captain and supported by archers and a spellcaster, the goblins skirmish with the heroes but the group overpowers them in the end with the goblin survivors fleeing.

Elzan-Ki’s body is missing his sword, chained tome, and bag of bones. However, Densen finds the tome in the backpack of the goblin captain. The group examines the tome whose cover is marked with the symbol of a legendary evil; Neher, whose name is spoken of only in whispers and who the majority refer to as Nekrah, but only regarding him as a Bard’s tale.

The tome only reacts to the paladin’s touch. Densen takes the tome a ways off from the group and opens the tome. It speaks many things to him and grants him knowledge.

Flight and Fight
The party discovers the entry hall to the tombs and passes through the west door. Beyond are smaller lobbies to family crypts. The west hall is dominated by a large hole in the floor of the ruins that drop to the sea below. Harpies that were nesting there after a recent raid on trading vessels attack the party. The encounter is horribly one-sided as the harpies’ songs control the fight. Eventually the harpies are defeated but not before Densen is almost lost to the gaping pit. Aeromethies, a sorcerer, had been a captive of the harpies; being taken from a merchant ship by the harpies. He is freed during the fight and assists the party in the battle and decides to join the group as it seems to be the best way to stay alive.

The party notices that a figure at the end of the hall had been watching the fight. It is the same figure that loosed a frost elemental on them earlier. The party pursues and come to the door to the crypt of the Light Forge family itself and learn that Kiddir’s final resting place is within.

Julius bests the crypt’s lock and they open the doors to be met by skeleton warriors that are dispatched with a single spell from the sorcerer. They find the tomb of Kiddir and make to enter but the genasi mage carrying a large tome and a bag of bones, opens a fight with a devastating storm spell. He flees but is intercepted by the rogue, wizard, and sorcerer. It becomes clear that the mage is possessed by another being that channels even more power. The tome chained about him seems to have immense power and seems to call power of its own will. Khardesh moves to engage him with his spirit wolf but is nearly slain by the swordmage’s rain of attacks.

Multiple tactics are employed to keep the mage from escaping including a wall of growth that slows the mage considerably. He nearly escapes down a secret tunnel but is followed in the shadows by the Kitari Assassin. Some of the others catch up and the mage is knocked to the ground. In a final effort to escape, the tome unleashes a veil of shadow under which the mage can escape. However, the assassin, Liam, not being a stranger to the realm of shadow, beholds the spirit possessing the mage and it appears to be a dwarf of a very broad stature. Liams runs the being through with his blade. As the shadows subside, the ruined body of the mage is seen to be surrounded by a teleportation circle and he vanishes. Ayel identifies the spell as a short-range summoning and the party knows that the mage must still be near.

The group returns to the tomb of Kiddir and there they find the Runes of Nyne placed in the lid of Kiddir’s sarcophagus. Someone had tried to pry the artifact away but Aeromethies was able to lift it from its place with no more effort than lifting a small table. Also the party discovered that someone, probably the mage, had made rubbings of the etched pedigree charts on the walls of the Lightforge tombs. Only the most recent additions were copied.

Also, a torn journal was found in the tomb. It was dropped by the mage most likely and it belonged to one Elzan-Ki. The journal records the works and thoughts of a genasi mage who is tormented by a possessing spirit. He no longer can discern his own thoughts from the spirit’s. The journal lays out in brief, a ritual whose preface reads:

Spirit unrested, bones of the fallen,
Will of the servant bound.
Relics in death, blood of the enemy,
Word of the Unholy found.

Spirit renewed to bones of the fallen,
Life of the servant forsaken.
With relics be bathed in the blood of the enemy,
Bliss unlife can ne’er be taken.
